The Linton Pool Board met recently to outline a comprehensive strategy for the 2026 season, focusing on long-term infrastructure, community fundraising, and innovative ways to boost revenue at the A.M. Risher Aquatic Center.
Strategic Planning & Infrastructure
Ashley Dyer presented a draft of a five-year comprehensive plan for the facility. The plan includes:
- A comparative study of the costs associated with full demolition versus the recommended five-year renovation and maintenance plan.
- A specialized plan to update the pool’s filtration system over the next several years.
- Coordination with the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility for spring cleaning and plans to repaint and seal the baby pool.
Personnel & Management
The board unanimously voted to re-hire the 2025 manager and assistant manager for the 2026 season, citing their "outstanding" performance and efficient office management.
Regarding lifeguard certification, the board is transitioning to a new coordinator, Brian Lonaman from the Vigo County Aquatic Center. Certification costs are estimated between $185 and $250 per person, and the board plans to reach out to neighboring communities like Bloomfield to meet minimum class requirements.
Innovative Revenue & Concessions
A major highlight of the meeting was the proposal to open the concession stand to the non-swimming public.
- The board is exploring renovating a boarded-up window on the south wall to serve park visitors, pickleball players, and families at the nearby splash pad.
- Members discussed seeking help from the Carpenters Union or Twin Rivers students for the renovation.
- Inspired by the success of other local pools, the board is looking into "Chick-fil-A Days" and has secured product donations from Coca-Cola, Pepsi, and Hershey’s.
Fundraising & Memorials
The A.M. Risher Revitalization Program continues to gain momentum with several upcoming initiatives:
- Sponsorship Tiers: New "Champion, Partner, and Supporter" levels have been launched.
- Donors can purchase lounge chairs featuring commemorative plaques. The board suggested honoring past mayors (Risher, Jones, and Wright) and long-time swim team supporters Jan and Joe Cable.
- Upcoming Events:
- April 25: A "Side-by-Side and Jeep Ride" sponsored by Linton Cycle Sales.
- May 16: An American Legion Auxiliary Brunch and Fashion Show at the Roy Clark Building to benefit the revitalization project.
Community Accessibility
To ensure all local children can enjoy the pool, the board is coordinating a program where donors purchase family passes for families in need. Additionally, they are seeking local businesses to sponsor "Free Admission Days" on typically slow Mondays or Sundays to boost attendance.
Note: The appointment of a new board member was tabled until next month to resolve potential conflicts of interest regarding members also serving on the revitalization committee.
