Dear Greene County Elected Officials,
I am writing to you as a concerned resident of Greene County regarding the recent catastrophic data exposure involving the Flock Safety camera network
Recent reports from Evansville have confirmed that over 80,000 police searches were leaked to the open internet, part of a nationwide exposure of 74 million searches on "HaveIBeenFlocked.com." This leak included detective names and active investigation details, which the FBI has explicitly labeled a “significant officer safety risk.”
Despite prior warnings, Greene County leadership moved forward with this "community network" that links our local movements into this same insecure nationwide database. By opting into this network, you have effectively handed the keys to our residents' private travel data to over 5,000 outside agencies, with no guarantee of oversight or security.
I am formally requesting the following actions:
- Public Comment: Request for public comment, how is Greene County going to prove to the citizens that this system is keeping data safe in light of this recent event?
- Immediate Suspension: Shut down the Greene County Flock Camera system and disable all nationwide data-sharing features immediately.
- Proof of Security: Provide a third-party forensic audit proving that Greene County data is not currently exposed on the public web and can be protected from future "reciprocal" leaks.
If the county cannot guarantee the absolute security of this data, which the Evansville incident suggests is impossible under the current Flock architecture, I urge you to terminate the contract altogether. Our safety should not come at the cost of our constitutional rights or the safety of the officers who protect us. I look forward to your prompt response and a scheduled date for public discussion on this matter.
Sincerely,
Adam Wence
