It was a bustling start at the courthouse today as the filing period for the 2026 Primary Election officially opened. As of January 7, several local candidates have already stepped forward to throw their hats in the ring for a variety of county, township, and state-level positions.

Early Filings at a Glance
The first day saw a strong turnout of candidates filing their paperwork. Notable filings include:
- State & Judicial: Tanner Bouchie (Republican) has filed for State Senator, District 39, while Dena Benham Martin (Republican) is seeking to retain her seat as Judge of the Greene Superior Court.
- County Leadership: Current Greene County Sheriff George A. Dallaire (Republican) and Circuit Court Clerk Jamie Thompson (Republican) have both officially filed for their respective offices.
- Commissioners & Council: The race for County Commissioner, District 3, is already seeing competition between Republicans Jody L. Lewis and Jerry A. Margraf. Randall Brown (Republican) has filed for County Council, District 1.
- Township Representation: Filings were received for Trustee and Board Member positions across Beech Creek, Richland, and Stockton townships, with candidates representing both the Republican and Democratic parties.
